Pattern: Burda 8071<br />
Fabric: Hilco, from local store<br />
<br />
I am new to garment sewing (this is an important information). Nevertheless, I took the<a href="http://www.paisleyandlace.com/category/this-lovely-summer-dress-challenge/"> lovely summer dress challenge</a>.<br />
<br />
I wanted a very quick and easy to sew empire line summer dress and ended up with Burda 8071. <br />
<br />
I liked the pattern which was actually easy enough for me. I had to make some adjustments, though. At the end I am happy with how it turned out.<br />
It was a good decision to leave the bottom seam to the very end.<br />
<br />
I used a 100% cotton from Hilco in light blue with tiny flowers.<br />
<br />
Can't wait for the first really hot days to show it of ...<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Some time ago I spent an evening making these little note pad covers. I was looking for a project to use some of my scraps. I think they make nice little presents for nice persons, too.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">If you like to make one, just follow the instructions.</div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="background-color: #cfe2f3; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>1. Buy note book, plan the size and cut the fabric</b></div><br />
The size of the final item depends on the size of the note pad you use.<br />
In the picture below you see the sizing I used for a note pad 10.6 x 14.7 cm ( 4.17 x 5.79").<br />
You may need to adjust the sizing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5o0doN4wQ74ggML_kU4vr74KkhKuUZQPtVDSlvCL-Cy6Kpmf4y2iuhb_xAIktP28dT7UwIhiRgsEXSuhvN1Q6ulV7u07hemyO0QPP1WY1YBKwTabaAKkTwBVd1ejD4kmdPxIgcD68SeUb/s1600/Ma%25C3%259Fe.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5o0doN4wQ74ggML_kU4vr74KkhKuUZQPtVDSlvCL-Cy6Kpmf4y2iuhb_xAIktP28dT7UwIhiRgsEXSuhvN1Q6ulV7u07hemyO0QPP1WY1YBKwTabaAKkTwBVd1ejD4kmdPxIgcD68SeUb/s640/Ma%25C3%259Fe.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrpB-6HUKB7DnZiME7TAw4PS7_kKJM8hGLxWTdD1CtEOEKgoX09GNJJ1MgUM1RE_NG6JyxNuOQF4OEoP6U1mqv4yaty-trXRc5MnA4cJ7zL3gyuFO6_gpSs4GbaE_AiCfvAzteM8K-eiM/s1600/DSC_6564_bearb_klein_schnitt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrpB-6HUKB7DnZiME7TAw4PS7_kKJM8hGLxWTdD1CtEOEKgoX09GNJJ1MgUM1RE_NG6JyxNuOQF4OEoP6U1mqv4yaty-trXRc5MnA4cJ7zL3gyuFO6_gpSs4GbaE_AiCfvAzteM8K-eiM/s1600/DSC_6564_bearb_klein_schnitt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrpB-6HUKB7DnZiME7TAw4PS7_kKJM8hGLxWTdD1CtEOEKgoX09GNJJ1MgUM1RE_NG6JyxNuOQF4OEoP6U1mqv4yaty-trXRc5MnA4cJ7zL3gyuFO6_gpSs4GbaE_AiCfvAzteM8K-eiM/s1600/DSC_6564_bearb_klein_schnitt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrpB-6HUKB7DnZiME7TAw4PS7_kKJM8hGLxWTdD1CtEOEKgoX09GNJJ1MgUM1RE_NG6JyxNuOQF4OEoP6U1mqv4yaty-trXRc5MnA4cJ7zL3gyuFO6_gpSs4GbaE_AiCfvAzteM8K-eiM/s320/DSC_6564_bearb_klein_schnitt.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br />
<br />
According to these measurements you need to cut:<br />
<br />
- inner panel 28 x 18 cm (= 26 x 16 cm plus 1 cm seam <br />
allowance)<br />
<br />
- interfacing for inner panel 26 x 16 cm <br />
<br />
- inner left pocket 16 x 11 cm<br />
<br />
- inner right pocket 26 x 16 cm<br />
<br />
- outer panel:final size is 28 x 18 cm. If you like a patchwork piece, cut pieces and take seam allowances into account. I cut 15 pieces 6.5 x 6.5 cm and sewed them together using 0.5 cm seam allowance. At the end I cut the edges to get a 28 x 18 cm panel.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="background-color: #cfe2f3;"><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b> 2. Make the outer patchwork panel </b></div><div style="background-color: white;"><br />
</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7qIhuNoahfDUps1fpBQRiSOZt6AZCZtnXAFlEpFW6LQGP9nTFwwk25mzjVZBgeAT5PJYPGGiSoGy3hBnd2anx-COHijUM5q9aSETebMoA3-2mWZiHQ50_EDIACGHbiay8DBr42GfDfyjG/s1600/DSC_6570_bearb_klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7qIhuNoahfDUps1fpBQRiSOZt6AZCZtnXAFlEpFW6LQGP9nTFwwk25mzjVZBgeAT5PJYPGGiSoGy3hBnd2anx-COHijUM5q9aSETebMoA3-2mWZiHQ50_EDIACGHbiay8DBr42GfDfyjG/s320/DSC_6570_bearb_klein.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Sew all those patchwork pieces together which are in one row using the right seam allowance.<br />
<br />
You will get three strips of patchwork pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqJIeU82IcM2khOAzpzYb0LO8P1jeq5PEOl_SNk88kWRouzftFM8sH2tAccgmDZDSk2oiegUb6JGhs4UcwH7mmB-T7lvmxm02pIFjDOnMCXTvHys-fE3x8fchi8C0VcgsKg-lQPtizvJTW/s1600/DSC_6574_bearb_klein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqJIeU82IcM2khOAzpzYb0LO8P1jeq5PEOl_SNk88kWRouzftFM8sH2tAccgmDZDSk2oiegUb6JGhs4UcwH7mmB-T7lvmxm02pIFjDOnMCXTvHys-fE3x8fchi8C0VcgsKg-lQPtizvJTW/s320/DSC_6574_bearb_klein.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then, sew all strips together.<br />
<br />
You will get a panel that is slightly larger than 28 x 18 cm. Square this panel up to the right size. Done.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

This was not only inefficient but also not nice to look at. So I planned to make a little drawstring bag. I could not decide which fabric I liked best so I made not just one but four little bags. The three other ones would also make nice little presents, I think.<br />

<i>In the beginning there were tools.</i><br />
<i>One year ago I took the bait and brought home my Singer Tradition 2263 from a popular coffee company. Since then some yards of fabric have been cut and sewn and my stash has thriven and prospered (unlike my bank account). The things I am making are small and simple projects that most of the time end up as presents for friends and family. I gain my inspiration from all these crafty minds who share their ideas with us on the web. </i><br />
<i>Now, one year after my first sewing adventure, I want to contribute to this creative world and hope for inspiring comments and advice, questions and answers.</i>Kalinekinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11724421920013910675noreply@blogger.com
